Dharma Drum Mountain (Ch. 法鼓山) 

Founded by Ven. Master Sheng Yen (聖嚴法師).  (1930-2009).  Master Sheng Yen was born to a farming family in Mainland China, then immigrated to Taiwan with the Nationalist Chinese (KMT) Government.  His early education was interrupted by wars in Mainland China.  He completed is formal education in Japan, receiving a Ph.D from Rissho University. 

This group is of the Zen (Ch.禪) tradition.  They emphasize meditation and the master is adept at using simple terms to teach profound concepts.

English meditation classes
Chung Tai has two centers which offers a meditation session and a short lectures on Buddhist theory/philosophy  given in English by Venerable monks and nuns of Chung Tai Monastery.

Dharma Drum Mountain (法鼓山)  Has an English Meditation group that meets in Taipei. Led by monastic disciples of Zen Master Sheng Yen.

The Pu Min (普民) Center has an English language medication class which meets on Sundays at 7:00pm. I've never attended it, but I imagine that it is similar to the one at Pu De in Taipei.

English Meditation and Buddhist Theory Class

Although they don't have an English website, their English class meets on Saturday mornings at 9:30. Call before you go. They frequently cancel classes due to functions at the 中台禪寺 (Chung Tai Monastery) in Puli.
